PROGETTO MUSICA

"Progetto Musica" is the manifestation organized by the Project Committee which promotes the diffusion in Rome of contemporary music in all its different aspects, from the fresh interpretation of the classical to new works of music theatre, from electronics applied to sound to the sonority of "exotic" instruments and of recently created systems of diffusion and spatialization where the music is frequently linked to the simultaneous use of different media.
The inauguration of this year's festival - the eighth edition - will be on Saturday 20 October at 19.30, at the Goethe-Institut of Rome, with a new production of Federazione CEMAT: 19 Italian composers have been commissioned to write 19 short pieces for piano in a collection entitled AldaMicioMusic, dedicated to Alda Vio, the illustrious teacher of a whole generation of musicians. Mauro Castellan o will be playing the pieces of the composers taking part in the initiative, who are: Francesco Antonioni, Sonia Bo, Mauro Castellano, Giuseppe Colardo, Enrico Collina, Giorgio Colombo Taccani, Michele dall'Ongaro, Fabrizio De Rossi Re, Ivan Fedele, Carlo Ferrario, Sandro Gorlì, Daniele Lombardi, Roberto Mann, Mario Moretti, Francesco Pennisi, Alessandro Sbordoni, Stefano Taglietti, Franco Torri, Roberta Vacca.
On Thursday 25 October, Nuovi Spazi Musicali is opening its concert cycle with a recital by the pianist Daan Vandevalle who will present a panoramic programme of European composers: Messiaen, Bartók, Goeyvaerts, Nuyts, Antonioni, Capurso, Morciano. The second concert will be on 29 October with the Duo Morini-Porta.
Nuove Forme Sonore has entrusted to the executive skill of the prize-winning pianist Silvia Belfiore the concert on 27 October, "The sound of the distant gods - mystic, sacred and ritual spaces in today's music" with works by Cage, Cisternino, Garcia, Brizzi, Lavista.
A concert of first public performances is scheduled for 31 October: "Strong words in water", the result of collaboration between three composition classes of the conservatories of Florence and Campobasso and of the Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio, Rome; the initiative has been organized by Freon/SPMT , while the texts of the works are by the inmates of Rome Municipality mental health centres.
The festival continues up to mid-December with concerts, courses and conferences for investigating technological and artistic aspects indepth.
A special date (11 November) is the study meeting on Francesco Pennisi (outstanding Italian composer who died recently) organized in collaboration with Nuova Consonanza.
In addition, the General Assembly of the ICEM (International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music-UNESCO) will be held during the course of the festival (23-25 November) as well as the European Conference of Informatics Research and Production Centres, "New music and technology in Europe - the role and function of the Centres of musical research, production and diffusion" (28 and 29 October).
The following will be participating in "Progetto Musica", which is promoted by the Rome Municipality, Cultural Policies Department, and has the support of the Ministry of Cultural Assets & Activities: Accademia Filarmonica Romana, CRM-Centro Ricerche Musicali, Nuove Forme Sonore, Freon-Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio, Nuovi Spazi Musicali, I Solisti di Roma, Musica Verticale, Federazione Cemat, Edison Studio, Musica d'Oggi.
Important institutions will be hosting the events: from the Goethe-Institut Rom (always in the vanguard in promoting the contemporary arts) to the Istituto Austriaco, Accademia d'Ungheria and Accademia Belgica.
