Franco Evangelisti
Aleatorio
(1959)
for String quartet

Editor: Semar

Commissioned by the Bremen Radio and dedicated to the La Salle Quartet, Aleatorio was first performed in Boston in 1961. Of this work, Franco Evangelisti wrote: "Aleatorio is a synthesis of the possibilities offered by the string instruments, comprising three distinct parts with only 16 bars. There are various overall characters‚ that can be assigned to each part. By changing these characters‚, the peformers are allowed to play the entire score several times, everytime changing tempo, dynamics, colours, etc. These changes are not at all random, but need to be pre-determined by the performers. The wok is open‰.
