Paola Livorsi
(2002)
for fl., fl g, fl. b. and pf

Length: 12:00
1 Performance: Paris - 2002

for flute (in C, G and bass) and piano (2002) was premiered in Paris, at Ircam, on 8th march 2002 ; the concert, broadcasted by Radio France, was part of the international conference organized by the Sorbonne " L'accès des femmes à l'expression musicale" and was a commission of the Foundation " Adkins-Chiti : women in music " of Rome.
The title comes from the Gilgamesh's book, and is the name of the god of Waters and Deep seas. It appears also in Perse's Vents.
The piece, in four sections (sognante, fluttuante, dal silenzio, sognante), integrates extremely fragile instrumental colours within a larger form : first and last part mirror each other ; the second part is more restless and extrovert, the third one opposes materic outbursts of sound to long silences.
The work was deeply influenced by Castaneda's books, by Messican shamanic conception of time, where sudden changements of state of mind (or levels of consciousness) are preceded by deep, long meditation.
