Instrument: Clarinet
Born in 1969, he graduated in clarinet, with full marks, at V. Bellini Conservatory in Palermo, and attended some specialization courses with the prestigious clarinettists Karl Leister and Sabine Meyer of Berlin Philarmonic.
He took, with full mark, the diploma of Chamber music (clarinet-piano) at the International Music Academy in Pescara, after a specialization biennial course (1994/95) held by Bruno Mezzena.
His repertoire spaces from modern music (improvisation, rock, pop, electronic, experimental avant-garde), to solo clarinet and orchestra repertoire, from Mozart, Concert K 622, to Copland, Concert for clarinet and strings orchestra with harp and piano; from Gerald Finzi, Concert for clarinet and strings to Strawinski, Ebony Concert, up to the virtuous Prelude fugue and riffs for clarinet and jazz ensemble by Leonard Bernstein (performed in April '95, Palermo, Sicilian first night, and replied in '96 and'97 (with 18 repeat performances in Sicily).
To the eclectic musician (so defined by the Adriatic R. F. Gallo in "Music Review of Senigallia" 1995) have been devoted several compositions for clarinet and orchestra (all performed in first night) written by affirmed Italian composers as Carlo Boccadoro (Dulcis Memoria - for clarinet and strings -Teatro Massimo Summer Season, Palermo 1996-97), Cesare Picco (Atlantis - for clarinet and strings recorded, with the Contemporary Music Orchestra of Palermo, for OMC Record (P. - Kelidon Edition), Gaetano Randazzo (Terra del sole sole…e…del mare - for clarinet, sax and orchestra, performed in first night, with the Contemporary Music Orchestra of Palermo at "Suoni del '900" Season, organized in '96 by Teatro Massimo Foundation, Palermo), Mauro Schiavone (Rubinetto rosso - for clarinet and big band, performed, in first night, with the Contemporary Music Orchestra of Palermo, for Music Institute V. Bellini, Concert Season 96 in Caltanissetta), Mauro Schiavone (Take the "Duke's" train - for clarinet and Orchestra, performed in first nigh, for Duke Ellington centennial anniversary on RAI telecast "Culture and TV" '99 - 2000 International Prize.
- In 1992 he realized, for Teatro Massimo Foundation, Palermo, a soloist tour with the orchestra "Gli Armonici" (Dir. Umberto Bruno) performing, in Sicilian first night, the "Italian Suite" for clarinet and strings by the composer Franco Mannino…."vivacious and bright execution of the Sicilian clarinettist" ( Curci magazine-October '92).
-In 1994 he performed "Elegia" by Carlo Galante for clarinet, cello and orchestra at "Suoni del '900" International Festival, with Palermo Chamber Orchestra (Dir. Giuseppe Cataldo).
- In 1995 he collaborated as a clarinet soloist with the American composer Michael Torke, performing in Palermo, national first night, with the composer at the piano, during the single Italian performance of his European tour, promoted by The Brass Group.
Since 1995 he has carried on activities in Italy and abroad with the Trio Strabern (clarinet, violin, piano) Contemporary Ensemble, founded by himself, unique in Europe, with which he realized three record productions of contemporary music (devoted to the Trio, recorded in absolute first night and composed by some of the greatest Italian composers as Marco Betta, Marcello Biondolillo, Carmelo Caruso, Bart De Kemp, Fabrizio Festa, Antonio Fortunato, Carlo Galante, Ennio Morricone, Carlo Pedini, Gaetano Randazzo, Giovanni Sollima, Paul Ugoletti, etc…).
The Trio Strabern received in '98, Ancona, the Prize for the criticism "Ars artis", as the best Italian ensemble of contemporary music (internet site http://www.triostrabern.com).
- In 1996 he performed, in Sicilian first night, the concert for clarinet and strings orchestra by Gerald Finzi, with the Contemporary Music Orchestra of Palermo (Dir. Gaetano Randazzo).
- Since 1996 he has carried on activities with the sextet "Ensemble Fenicia" (clarinet, piano, violin, viola, cello, contrabbasso), "Pigna d'Argento" Prize 2000, with which he realized two record productions, the first with the Italian lyric tenor Pietro Ballo and Ensemble Fenicia for Kicco Music Record and the second, "Sinkronismy - Ensemble Fenicia" with music by Piazzolla, Morricone, Mattaliano, Biondolillo, Fortunato, for Teatro del Sole Record Company, both promoted in tour for the Italian theatres.
- In duo with the pianist Mariangela Longo, he was awarded the first prize in national and international chamber music contests such as: A.M.A. Calabria '94, Angelic Catalans of Senigallia '94 (254 participants) and the fourth prize in the international contest " Portonovo in Ancona" 1995 ( 340 participants).
- Since 1988 he has collaborated as clarinet soloist with the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra, with which he performed more than 200 concerts in Italy with conductors as Gunther Schuller (Epitaph by Charles Mingus - 1992 - European first night -), Carla Blay, George Gaslini, Paul Lepore, Charles Floyd, Clarke Terry, David Miller, Bill Russo, Ignazio Garsia, etc…
- He directed, in absolute first night, (opening of "Mandàla Festival" 2001- first edition- villa Trabia, and OMC, season 2000, Auditorium Agricantus, Palermo) The Contemporary Music Orchestra of Palermo, " The Contemporary clarinet band" and "The Saxtet" Ensemble, with music by Marcello Biondolillo, Oscar Del Barba, Carmelo Caruso, Daniele Corsi, Fabrizio Festa, Antonio Fortunato, Piazzolla-Gioia, Gaetano Randazzo, Mauro Schiavone.
- Since 1998 he has worked as an art co-director for the Contemporary Music Orchestra in Palermo, Kelidon Music Publishing Company and OMC Record Company.
