After obtaining his diploma in Violin at the Mozarteum Academy of Salzburg under the guidance of Sandor Vegh, Diego Conti launched his career playing with Mozarteum's Camerata Academica, I Solisti Veneti and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He was subsequently first violin in important Italian orchestras (including Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Catania's Teatro Vincenzo Bellini) before commencing a solo activity which takes him all over the world (Europe, South America, USA, Canada, Middle and Far East, India and Africa).
He records for radio, cinema and television as well as for EMI, Nuova Era, Harmonia Mundi, Edipan, Esperia, Sculture d'Aria, Artepovera, and RCA Victor; his recordings include the first complete recording of Pietro Locatelli's L'Arte del Violino, the first volume of which was adjudicated best disc of the month by the English magazine "Gramophone", and a CD of music by Zappa, Lutoslavski, Lupone and Pärt, considered best disc of the year by the Italian newspaper "L'Unità".
He also specializes in contemporary music, giving many premieres of works which are frequently dedicated to him. He is a member of the ContrasTango quartet, leader and soloist of Gli Archi di Firenze and first violin soloist of the Orchestra Città Aperta.
Composer and author of literary and theatrical texts, he has written and set to music three operas: La pioggia oscura, Il canto della sirena and Marlowe.
