Cinzia Barbagelata studied violin with O. Scilla at Milan Conservatory before specializing with Pavel Vernikov and P. Roczek at the Salzburg Mozarteum.
Soloist, chamber music player and first violin/conductor of the Aglaia Ensemble,specializing in eighteenth-century repertoire, Cinzia Barbegelata has made a detailed study of the different compositional languages from early music to the twentieth century, dedicating herself principally to the baroque violin with research and analysis of original and unpublished scores and performances on period instruments. She has also been active as soloist in the field of contemporary music and as a collaborator with electronic music centres. She has given world premieres of important works for solo violin by Scelsi, Fedele, etc. and many composers have dedicated their music to her.
The guest of important festivals in Italy and abroad (Europe, Israel, America, Australia), she has also held specialization courses and seminars on the literature for solo violin in contemporary music at Melbourne University (Australia) and on the Italian baroque repertoire at Universidad Javeriana Bogotá (Colombia) and European Music Academy of Erba (Italy).
Cinzia Barbagelata records for Stradivarius (works by Bonporti, Galuppi, Sammartini, Mozart) and for Nuova Era, Concerto and Tactus. For the periodical Amadeus (Deutsche Grammophon) she recorded, as solo first violin, Vivaldi's L'estro armonico and La stravaganza and Bach's Die Kunst der Fuga (editing also the instrumentation). In addition she has recorded for RAI, BBC, Radio France and the Belgian and Israeli networks.
Teacher of violin at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory of Milan, she plays a "Laurentius Storioni-Cremona 1778" violin.
