He is in a definition by Giorgio Petrassi: "a musician who is strongly engaged in the achievement of the expressive communication". His interest in music expressiveness - which has a particular meaning in the panorama of the contemporary composition - demonstrates a new communicative will, which has brought him to be active also in the field of musical organisation. He has been member since 1972 of Nuova Consonanza Association in Rome, taken part to the Gruppo d'Improvvisazione of the same name since 1977 to 1985, and was artistic director of the 1983, '84 and '85 editions of the Concerts Season and in 1979, '86, '87 and '88 of the Festival. In 2001 he has become again President of the Association.
He has brought to maturity his composing formation with some composers such as Domenico Guaccero, Franco Evangelisti, Giacomo Manzoni, Hans Werner Henze. He also carries out an intense publishing and seminar activity in Italy and in foreign countries. Some of his works have been published by international reviews. In the last few years he approached also the research on Gregorian monodic chant, joining the choir of the Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra of Rome, directed by Alberto Turco.
He has recently founded the AleaNova ensemble (2002), in order to play aleatory and improvised music.
He has written for many institutions: the Gulbenkian Foundation (Angelus Novus, 1985), RAI (Le ombre riflesse, 1986; Riflessi, 1987; Lighea, 1988; "Alba. Cantata sulla perdita del sacro", 1992), the Biennale of Munich (La Sirenetta, 1988 e Ora comincia il silenzio, 1990), Metz Festival ("One morning, oh so early", 1988), Toscana Regional Orchestra ("...durch die Lieb'allein", 1990), Worldwide Saxophone Festival ("Così crescono i girasoli", concerto per sassofono e orchestra, 1992), Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepulciano ("Fabula", 1994), Società di Concerti Barattelli di L'Aquila ("Sì vulnerabil polpa", on the Verdi's Falstaff, 2002).
His scores are published by BMG Ricordi and Edipan. He teaches composition at the Conservatoire "Alfredo Casella" in L'Aquila.
