Giorgio Colombo Taccani
Chant d'Hiver
(1995)
for Violin, Tape and Live electronics

Length: 08:15
Editor: Suvini-Zerboni

Production: AGON acustica informatica musica - Milan
dedicated to Cinzia Barbagelata

The violin incessantly pursues a short melodic fragment through a dense web of apparently improvised digressions, uneasy pauses and sudden, vigorous changes. The part on tape follows, realized by elaborating exclusively violin samples, intensifying and multiplying in the acoustic space all that the soloist produces during his wandering course in a relationship of constant timbric and gestural integration.
Once found and presented, almost with force, the melodic fragment (so laboriously conquered) dissolves once more in a lengthy episode, at first rarefied and remote, then softly lyrical, in which the violin moves calmly in the low register; the referrals and echoes of the electronic materials unravel, "entering" the timbre of the instrument so as to intensify its most hidden characteristics.
The last section of the work is unexpectedly mobile and rhythmical: like a tale with a happy ending, the piece ends in a joyfully affirmative mood, serenely amused.
