Claudio Ambrosini
Preludio, a sguardi
(1994)
for Piano

Buyed by: Festival Novurgia di Milano

Preludio, a sguardi as a short meditation about loss, here symbolized by the loss of the natural resonances of the piano. Much attention is given to the moment when the resonance pedal is released; or the fingers release the keyboard. In this way notes are differently "shaped" or cut, often giving out a kind of lament... I this "Prelude, by glances" the pianist does not only "put", but also "takes away"; he does not only give birth to the sound, but makes it fade, almost vanish in the haze.
We are generally used to pay much attention to the moment when notes begin or develop into phrases. Quite rarely we concentrate on their decline, or the very moment when they "die".
Preludio, a sguardi was commissioned by Novurgia Festival in 1994, and it is dedicated to the painter Jill Carlson.
