Fausto Romitelli
Natura morta con fiamme (1992)
for String quartet amplified and Electronics

This composition is divided into three parts. Each instrument is amplified via a specially designed speaker system. These systems are different for each instrument and section of the piece.
By using the timbric mix of the instruments I have tried to create sonic material whose transformation in time corresponds to different locations in the sonic field. The movement of the sound in the hall is not real (as can be achieved through the use of computerized spacialization techniques), but a complete illusion. These sound trajectories are clearly percieved and often happen with such rapidity that they saturate the listening space around the audience becoming incandescent, pulsating, ephemeral.
The synthetic sounds were recorded at IRCAM in CSound controlled by a LISP program of my creation.
