Adriano Guarnieri
Preludio alla notte
(1992)
for Flute solo

Editor: Ricordi

Preludio alla notte draws inspiration from Romanza alla notte a more far-reaching composition by Guarnieri. The focus of the work is on the expressional intensity of the instrument's sound, on the fascination of the flute's "voice", that retains the decantation of the afflatus, a sort of sublimed Erwartung.
Electronics means amplification, allocation in a wide space, dynamic-spatial reverberation, sound dynamisation as support and acoustic resonance of the lyrical intensification. Retardations create virtual polyphonies and "set" loneliness in a universe crowded with night noises and inner echoes. The composition unravels like a continuum consisting of one formal bowing: "a night singing in tune with a cosmic harmony, recalling the perception of a continuous inner listening that man cannot escape" as the composer himself reminds.
