Works

Paola Livorsi studied composition in Turin with Riccardo Piacentini and Giorgio Pestelli, and attended many master classes (Franco Donatoni, 1995, Philippe Manoury, 1995-96, György Lieti, 1996, Ivan Fedele, 1997, Salvatore Sciarrino, 1999). Since 1996 thanks to CIMO (Centre for International Mobility) she continued her studies at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Kaija Saariaho and Jean-Baptiste Barrière.
From that moment on she became interested in electronic devices, in particular to those related to the study and analysis of human voice and its expressional possibilities.

In 1998-99 she participated in a stage of electronic music at Civica Scuola di Musica of Milan with Giovanni Cospito. She was also invited to the international congress "Musical cognition and behaviour" by "La Sapienza" University of Rome.
She also participated in the course of composition and electronic music of CCMIX (Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis, ex-Ateliers Upic, Paris) with Sylviane Sapir, Curtis Roads, Gérard Pape e Julio Estrada. On that occasion she composed Ohnfad for female voice and electronics.
She was invited to the congress "L'accès des femmes à l'expression musicale " (2002) organised by Sorbona/IRCAM. On this occasion the "Foundation Adkins-Chiti:women in music" commissioned her Eâ for flute and piano.
She attended the yearly course in composition and musical informatics organised by IRCAM where her work Os for male voice and electronics (Nicholas Isherwood, Agora 2002).

In 2003 Musica Nova Helsinki dedicated her a concert. She has been invited to the German festival Musik in 21. Jahrhundert of Saarbrücken, with Verso for ensemble (commissioned by the Saarländischer Rundfunk).
In 2004 she was invited to the Tampere Biennale (Finland) and in 2004-2005 at the Takefu International Composition Festival (Japan), which commissioned her the works Suonno (Quartetto Arditti) and Tondo (Mayumi Miyata, shô, Tosiya Suzuki, recorder). She was invited to the festival Time of Music 2005, in Viitasaari (Finland).
In 2007 her orchestral piece Hospes comesque lunae was played at März Musik in Berlin by the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester (DSO) conducted by Toshio Hosokawa. The same year she was invited to the Venice Biennale, which commissioned her In between for ensemble. This work has been voted by the International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM) 2009, for its festival in Göteborg (Sweden). In 2008 she was commissioned by the Finnish Zagros Ensemble.
For the next years she has commissions by the Tampere Biennale (2010) and the French Quatuor Diotima.
Since 2001 she has been living and working in Helsinki where her projects have been sustained by several institutions (Finnish Cultural Foundation and Ministry of Culture). She collaborates as foreign correspondent for "Il Giornale della Musica", and teaches occasionally electronic music at the Sibelius Academy and other institutions.
