Michele Marelli, born in Alessandria (Italy) in 1978, began very young studying the clarinet, taking the degree in the Conservatory of Alessandria in 1997 with the best marks cum laude under the guidance of Prof. Giacomo Soave. Graduated at the high school (Classical Lyceum), he is studying Literature and Philosophy at the University of Turin.
As a student of Suzanne Stephens since 1997 and her actual assistant during the Sockhausen Courses Kuerten, he specialized on Karlheinz Stockhausen' s repertoire, becoming one of the few interpreters in the world playing the solo pieces for clarinet and basset horn by the German composer. His performances were awarded four important prizes by Stockhausen: in August 2000 the Special Prize for the interpretation of Susani and Elufa; in August 2001, winner together with the belgian flutist Karin De Fleyt for the performance of Ave; in August 2002 he was awarded for the interpretation of Freia for basset horn alone, in August 2004 he won the first prize for the interpretation of Wochenkreis for basset horn and synthesizer. As a member of the Stockhausen Ensemble, he played the world premiere of Stop und Start, Europa Gruss and Rechter augenbrauentanz, for 8 clarinets, percussion and synthesizer as first clarinettist and E flat clarinet soloist, recorded in Cologne and published by the Stockhausen-Verlag (CD 64 - CD 59 ). 
He specialized in England with Alan Hacker and in Paris with Alain Damiens. He premiered Mozart's clarinet concert K622 at the University of Georgia Chamber Orchestra (USA).
He collaborated with composers such as Franco Donatoni, Giorgio Gaslini, Sylvano Bussotti, Godfried Willem Raes, Francesco Pennisi, Alberto Colla, Paolo Boggio, Juan Maria Solare and he gave concerts as soloist all around Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland and Poland in important concert halls and music festivals such as: Berliner Festspiele, German Clarinet Society, Logos Tetraeder Hall, Musikhochschule of Cologne and Duesseldorf, Orpheus Instituut in Gent, Kraków Philharmonic Hall, Festival Klankfabriek, Teatro Manzoni in Bologna, Angelica Festival, Teatro Carignano and Piccolo Regio in Turin, Ferrara Musica and others.
In April 2004 he had a solo recital in Milan at the Duomo organized by the Archbishop, card.Tettamanzi, entirely dedicated to Stockhausen's music, at the composer's presence. 
He played and gave interviews on RAI Radio3, WDR Cologne, Kulturradio, National Belgian Radio, Polskie Radio 2, Radio Kraków, the Polish national television TVP3, the American magazine "The Clarinet" and on the German magazine "Rohrblatt" which dedicated an entire cover to him. He won many prizes in national and international competitions, he was winner of the LOGOS Honorary award for the best concert of the year 2000 at the Logos Foundation for contemporary and experimental music in Gent (Belgium) directed by Godfried Willem Raes and winner of the auditions of the Gioventù Musicale d'Italia. 
In September 2004 he won The First Prize at the "International Contemporary Chamber Music Competition" in Kraków: awarded by the Polish Culture Minister, he had a solo recital at the Kraków Philharmonic Hall broadcast on live radio. 
He is solo clarinet of the improvisation Ensemble Impressive.
He is founding member of the Stockhausen Trio together with Karin De Fleyt and Marc Maes.
Since 2001 he has been awarded a scholarship by the De Sono Association for music (Turin).
