Gabriele Cassone was born in Udine, Italy. He studied trumpet at the Conservatory in Udine and after his graduation studied composition with Luciano Chailly at Conservatory in Milan. He was successful at his first orchestra audition and at the age of 17 became first trumpet with the orchestra "Pomeriggi Musicali" in Milan where he was principal trumpet for 13 years. During this period he also played with the RAI Radio Orchestras of Milan and Torino and with the orchestra of La Scala.
He won various national and international competitions including: Markneukirchen Germany [1986] and Toulon France [1987]
He made his debut as soloist at the Salzburg Festival in 1988 and from this time, has been an active soloist both as a performer on the baroque trumpet and with the modern trumpet in the classical and contemporary repertoire.
In 1996 he performed the world premier of Kol-od for trumpet and ensemble by Luciano Berio with the Ensemble Intercontemporain led by Pierre Boulez. Sine then has performed in the principle concert halls of Europe and America including The Cocertgebouw of Amsterdam, Radio France Paris, La Scala of Milan, Donaueschingen Festival Germany, the Mozarteum of Salzburg the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and Carnegie Hall, New York.
He has performed the premieres of solo trumpetworks by S.Sciarrino, A.Plog, R.Ford, D.Zanettovich, J.M. Lopez Lopez, C.Pennisi, M.Tadini,P. Esposito, L.Coccioli,...
He has also recorded many CDs of the baroque solo trumpet repertoire with the Accademia Bizantina, Concerto Italiano, and with Orchestra of San Petronio in Bologna the complete solo trumpet works of Torelli.. In 1996 with the Giardino Armonica he recorded the Bach second Brandenburg Concerto on the Teldec label, playing the Baroque trumpet in F.
In 1997 he gave a concert and seminar at the Mozarteum of Salzburg and appeared as soloist in a concert of the music of Luciano Berio in Carnegie Hall, New York.
He now teaches trumpet and Baroque trumpet at the Civic School of Ancient and Modern music in Milan and at the Conservatory of Music in Novara.
He has played since 1982 with the organist Antonio Frigè. As a natural extension of organ and trumpet Frigè founded the Ensemble Pian e Forte. With this group of various combinations of early instruments Gabriele Cassone has recorded numerous CDs.
In 1998 he formed and directs an ensemble of trumpets, timpani and bombarde. They have performed in Holland at the festival "Oude Muziek", at Cremona for the commemoration of the court of Isabella D,Este and in Milan for the series "Musica e Poesia a San Maurizio".
His activities in 1999 will include performing at the Salzburg Festival where he will perform a solo, on stage part at the premier of a new opera by Luciano Berio "Cronaca del Luogo". Through the year of 1999 he is performing with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the London Chamber Orchestra in the recording of all the cantatas of J.S. Bach on Deutsche Gramafon and in the year 2000 with a tournee' in all of Europe and Usa.
