Ensemble

The DUO ALTERNO was created in Turin. Through concerts and master-classes it promotes the repertoire for voice and piano since the first XXth Century to today, with a natural penchant for the Italian music. Many composers (Giacomo Manzoni, Ennio Morricone etc.) wrote pieces for soprano Tiziana Scandaletti and pianist-composer Riccardo Piacentini, both of whom professors at the Conservatory (Vocal chamber music and Composition), graduated with top marks in History of Music as well in their respective fields of performance. The DUO made its debut in February 1997 at the Festival of Italian Contemporary Music in Vancouver, where the two musicians were invited to give concerts and master-classes at the Simon Fraser University, at the University of British Columbia and at the Vancouver Academy of Music. Regular tours abroad: in 1998 in Finland (Sibelius Academy - Helsinki), Uzbekistan (3rd and 4th Festival of contemporary music - Tashkent, first Italian artists to be invited), Argentina (Centro Cultural San Martìn - Buenos Aires); in 1999 in Uzbekistan again and in the four Scandinavian Countries (Festival Memorie sonore - Stockholm, Italian Film Festival - Oslo, Cable Factory - Helsinki); in 2000 in USA (Ethical Society - Philadelphia, Levine School - Washington, Rutgers State University); in 2001 in France (Festival Musique italienne du XXme siècle - Strasburg, Festival Transphotographique - Lille, Centre Noroit - Arras), Kazakhstan (State Conservatory - Almaty), England (Festival Roussel - London), South-Est of Asia (Gedung Kesenian Theater - Jakarta, Chongdong Theater and Joong Ang University - Seoul, Jubilee Hall - Singapour); in 2002 in Belgium (Flanders Festival), Norway, China (Bejing Central Conservatory of Music), Singapour besides to numberous performances in Italy, from the Incontri Europei con la Musica in Bergamo to Spazio Musica in Cagliari, I Teatri di Reggio Emilia, Nuovi Spazi Musicali in Rome, Settembre Musica in Turin, Trieste Prima...
The DUO has made also recordings on the Curci label (world première recording of Du Dunkelheit by Giacomo Manzoni, dedicated to the Duo Alterno, Milan 1998), the Nuova Era label (two CDs with world première recording of pieces by Giorgio Federico Ghedini, Turin 2000 and 2001, and one CD dedicated to Alfredo Casella, Turin 2002) and has been broadcast on several national radios and televisions, including Italian-Swiss Radio, Uzbek National Radio and the Kazak National Televisions.
