Instrument: Ensemble
Ex Novo Ensemble was founded in 1979 in Venice by the composer Claudio Ambrosini and seven young musicians, who have been members of the ensemble from its constitution. Ex Novo Ensemble is regarded as a point of reference of the new music international panorama. The continuity obtained by working together, its artistic and professional coherence give to the ensemble a particular character, a "sound", which is widely recognised by both public and critics of the main European festivals.
Some of these festivals are: Festival Acanthes, Avignon; Music '88, Strasbourg; Concerts Ville de Genève; Biennale, Venice; Tage für neue Musik, Zürich; Time of Music, Viitasaari; Elektron Musik Festival, Skinnskatteberg, Sweden; Roma Europa, Rome; Warsaw Autumn; Akademie der Künste, Berlin; Gaudeamus Foundation, Amsterdam; Musica nel nostro tempo, Milan; IGNM, Basel; Ars Musica, Bruxelles; Münchener Philarmoniker; Mozarteum, Aspekte Salzburg; Eco & Narciso; Festival delle Nazioni, Città di Castello; RAI, Rome and Milan; Tish Center, New York; Chicago Center of Arts.
Their commitment to the exploration of contemporary music language has become the basis for re-interpreting classical repertory, particularly the scores composed for rare instrumental sets that are very beautiful, but are still almost unknown.
Many world premières and works dedicated to the Ex Novo Ensemble have also been presented in recordings for the major European broadcasting corporations.
The Ensemble contributes significantly to the diffusion of the early 90s Italian chamber music by recording for companies like ASV, Dynamic, Stradivarius, Ricordi, Arts and others.
